What type of skateboard is good for a beginner?

By Action Isle • Sep 1st, 2010 • Category: Questions

Question by God: What type of skateboard is good for a beginner?
I'm 5'3", 110 pounds, size 7 1/2 to 8 shoe size. If that makes a difference...

I'm looking for a good beginner skateboard since the only experience I've had is riding my friend's for about two minutes. What is a good brand to get? What type (narrow, wide, longboard)? I'm looking for something inexpensive, but I don't really know the minimum I should spend to get a good one. My brother said the cheapest decent ones go for about , but I'm not sure if I should trust what he says since he gave up skateboarding while gas prices were still 75 cents a gallon...

Any tips for choosing a board?

i started with a baker, you'll probably want a 7.5 board in length. independent or krux are pretty decent trucks, and wheels don't really matter although i prefer autobahns or rictas. some good inexpensive bearings would be bones red's their about 15 dollars for an 8 pack. for a good set up it will cost somewhere between 100-130 dollars.

Get the Strongest XLR8 33" 250 Watt RC Skateboard

A remote control skateboard virtually puts you in control of the skateboard drivers seat. At first thought some people feel apprehensive about being on a powered skateboard feeling that they don't have any control. In fact though in some ways you have more control with these skateboards than you do with the standard type.

When it comes to controlling speed its simple with the hand remote control. For those that don't think that there could be much speed behind these boards they are soon surprised to discover that they can reach speed up to 18 miles or more depending on the make of the board. This is not a gradual build up of speed either as with the EMAD remote control skateboard you can attain this speed in 4 seconds. If that sounds like a little too much for you there are several other models to choose from with lesser speeds. You are in total control though no matter which model or version you end up with. From a safety factor, models such as those made by EMAD have an integrated anti lock breaking system. This is a system that one can rely on to stop safely.

Another surprising aspect about the remote control skateboard is that you are not restricted as to where you can skateboard. Many novices to this type of boarding believe that you are restricted to straight asphalt surfaces for example. This is far from the truth although they perform extremely well with this type of surface. It doesn't have to be flat though as a good quality board with good wattage will handle the up hills with no problems. There are a variety of designs on the market that will cater to your specific needs which includes several street designs. There are even models that will allow you to handle rough terrain or the beach if that is your choosing. These are some of the great advantages over the standard boards.

If you are new to the world of skateboarding you may not be aware or feel that the same safety precautions are necessary because you are using a remote control skateboard. The height is no different and you can fall just as easily off this type of board as any other. To prevent hurting yourself you should make it a rule to wear the protective equipment. This means the elbow and knee pads that are going to help prevent those nasty scrapes. Then the wrist guards are great at saving one from the injury of a broken wrist. Although you may often see skateboarders riding in shorts this really isn't a good idea as the proper clothing such as pants and long sleeves can afford great protection as well. Anyone that is really safety conscious will also wear a helmet as well.

When it comes to buying both your safety equipment as well as your remote control skateboard you will want to find a dealer that is reputable. There are several of these on line such as radio-control-skateboard.com for example.
