Longboarding has been in the shadow of skateboarding for some time now, but that may all change as more skateboarders are seemingly swapping their shortboard for a longboard.
"Although no definitive numbers are available to quantify longboarding's growth, manufacturers report steady increases in sales. Even new skateboard manufacturers, such as the unfortunately named snowboard builder Never Summer, are entering the market. And manufacturers and retailers love that many users own a variety of boards for different uses."

Why would a skater switch to longboarding?
Longboarding isn't just about tricks. Most people can't ride a skateboard without being harassed to do a kickflip or some other kind of flippy trick. Longboarding still has it's tricks, but you don't have to be able to do one to ride one. Some people ride longboards for transportation, some bomb downhill, some do sliding, some do fancy footwork, some work on tricks, and some do everything. You also can be any age (as long as you can move well) to ride one. On top of all this, longboarding is easier than skateboarding, so frustrated skateboarders can find it a great alternative.
