Chainless Bicycles – Pant Legs Like Them
By Action Isle • Dec 11th, 2009 • Category: Cycles
I didn't know chainless bicycles existed, but apparently they have been around for a loooong time. They are also called "shaft-driven bicycles" because instead of using a chain, they use a drive shaft.
I hate it when the chain pops off a bike, and it's also annoying when a pant leg gets caught in the gears. I have completely ripped a pant leg in half doing that.
With a chainless driven bicycle you don't have to worry clothes getting caught in the non-existent chain. A couple of other cool features are that you can change the gears while stopped or even while going in reverse.
A couple downsides of chainless bicycles are that they usually have a low gear range and they are less efficient in terms of power.
