Onda Board – Feels Like There’s A Motor Underneath

Posted by – May 26, 2011

The creators say that they designed the Onda Board to be the best longboardOnda Board longboard for cruising. And it just might be.

Built From the Ground Up

The futuristic Onda Board was created from the ground up. Every part of it was custom made. The deck is made of a robust yet flexible polymer and fiberglass blend.

Straight from Onda's website- "Its material blend is hygroscopic, which means it will actually absorb humidity and become more flexible and even stronger over time. That means you can ride your Onda in any weather, or even leave it outside. It won’t ever delaminate as wood does."

Now, I don't quite understand how absorbing humidity will make it stronger and more flexible, but it sounds interesting nonetheless. And from the video, it definitely looks like it is flexible and strong (seeing it be run over by a car was fairly convincing).

Onda Board longboardRide and Glide

The Onda board was built for being good at cruising and carving. The board is low to the ground so it is easier to kick, and the low friction 7 inch wheels help you glide longer.

Adjustable Trucks

The trucks can be adjusted by swapping out the torsion shocks. There are several different shocks with different degrees of hardness. They can be interchanged and mixed up to adjust the trucks to fit the terrain being ridden, or to match what the rider wants.

So, if the rider wants to be able to carve more, soft shocks can be installed, or if the rider needs a stiffer ride for higher speeds, harder shocks can be installed, all without tools and done fairly quickly. The spare shocks can be stored under the board for later.

Looking at it, I definitely did not think this thing would handle being run over by a car.

Riding A Dirtsurfer.. On Snow?

Posted by – December 16, 2010

The Dirtsurfer can tackle pavement, grass, dirt, sand, and... snow! Some Dirtsurfer owners are snowboarders that use it during the off-season so they can have something to ride when there is no snow.

Other hardcore Dirtsurfer owners don't let their board collect dust over the winter, and instead keep on riding!

Click the photo to see more Dirtsurfer on snow pictures

While a Dirtsurfer won't outperform a snowboard on the snow, it does roll! As you can see in the 2nd video below, it doesn't work well on deep snow. Harder packed is the snow of choice for a Dirtsurfer. Take a look at the videos below.

How To Snowskate With The Artec Bi Level Snowskate

Posted by – January 18, 2010

Artec Bi Line SnowskateFor those that like to shred snow on a snowboard, winter is fun, but for those that don't snowboard or have much of anything to do, it is usually spent feeling bored while locked indoors waiting for that blasted snow to finally melt.

Since you can't control the weather, and winter is going to come around regardless of how much you hate it, perhaps this year you can do something different and learn how to snowskate.

If you are active during the summer with skateboarding or some other boardsport, but when winter rolls around you go dormant, this year take advantage of the winter snow and learn how to snowskate.  Or, if snowboarding isn't your thing, and you want something else to do during the winter months besides sit inside, give snowskating a try.

What is a Snowskate?

A snowskate is like a skateboard deck without anything attached, just the deck.  There are of course a few differences, but in a nutshell, that is what a snowskate is.

There are a couple different styles of snowskates, but the Artec Bi Level Snowskate talked about here is the kind of snowskate that has a single ski attached under the deck of the board.

Other snowskates have four skis, which makes it ride more like a skateboard. Others dont have any skis and instead are more similar to a skateboard deck. This style has no ski or skis attached, so instead of a ski touching the snow, the bottom of the snowskate deck is what touches it.

How to Snowskate

Snowskating is similar to skateboarding, but since snow is slippery, it changes the feel of riding a bit.  Snow is not at all like concrete.

The foot placement is similar to skateboarding, with the back foot on or close to the tail, and the front foot about one third the length of the board from the nose.

You can kick a snowskate just like you can on a skateboard.  When you are riding, make sure to keep your center of gravity over the board, or you will fall.  When turning, keep your center of gravity over the edge of the board that is cutting into the snow.

To turn, shift your weight in the direction you want to turn.  Shift to the right side to turn right, and the left to turn to the left.

Once you master riding, you can try tricks. The ollie is what you should learn before anything else. Since you can do the same kind of tricks on a snowskate that you can a skateboard, the sky is the limit after you learn how to ollie.

The Shred Sled – “The Ultimate Casterboard”

Posted by – March 20, 2009

The Shred Sled is like all the other caster boards out there (ripstik, wave board, s-board, the list goes on) but it adds a little something extra to the mix by throwing in two more wheels.

Other caster boards like the ripstik only have two wheels, the shred sled has four.  This is said to give the rider more control, make it easier to ride, and smoother as well.

The Shred Sled Specs

  • It brings the thrills and carving movements of snowboarding to the streets.
  • It has a cool feel--combination of snowboarding and skateboarding.
  • Can quickly go uphill. It's easy
to propel the SHRED SLED. You don't even have to push off!
  • 4 INLINE wheels have much more control than 2 wheels.
  • The 4-80mm polyurethane wheels and ABEC-5 Bearings are SMOOTHER and STRONGER and rarely need to be replaced. (unlike other boards)
  • The concave decks make for better foot control.

Pumgo Skateboard: No Kicking Required

Posted by – March 17, 2009

The Pumgo skateboard is a kick-less skateboard where the rider pumps the board back and forth to propel themselves forward.

It kind of looks like a seesaw for your feet.

Apparently the Pumgo is not only fun to ride, but it also gives your core muscles a great workout.

Riding it requires core strength to remain balanced while pumping the Pumgo back and forth.
